It is National Book Lover’s Day!
What a fun day, especially for a reader like myself! I’ve always loved books & so does my husband, so it has been very easy for us to instill a love of reading in our two-year-old son! Our son loves to read a lot of the same books over and over again, which is great, just sometimes exhausting! (You can only act surprised that the hungry caterpillar became a butterfly so many times!)
To celebrate National Book Lover’s Day, I thought why not combine two of my loves, reading and crafting! Why not make a few bookmarks?
One of the fun things about this craft is that it doesn’t take very long to make and you have a lot of control over the designs and colors! These are great because you can make one when gifting a book to a bookworm to add a personal touch. You can give them as a gift all on their own as well! They are also perfect for back-to-school!
The catch about making these bookmarks is that I thought of SO many cute ideas, I just couldn’t get to them all! I guess I will just have to do another round soon!
I finally decided on doing four bookmarks. I decided to make a few for myself and one for my niece who is starting kindergarten.
To start, you will need to choose what material you want to use for the backing. I used a clear poly sheet, cut down to the size I wanted. But, you can use cardboard, cardstock (I think this would work best), just about anything that is a little sturdy. You just want to make sure it is something that your StyleTechCraft vinyl can stick to!
When it comes to sizing--that is another great thing about making your own…you can make it whatever size you want! I found that most bookmarks are usually 2 inches wide and around six to eight inches long. However, you can personalize your bookmark and make it work for you! (This is especially cool if you decide to make a bookmark for a book and the bookmark will live permanently there, such as in a family Bible or something like that).
I decided on four designs: Just One More Chapter (isn’t that what we ALL say when reading?), Once Upon A Time, Books Are Magic (they really are!) and my niece’s name (Sophie) with a few hearts.

For each of the designs, these are the StyleTechCraft colors I used:
Just One More Chapter: Sky Blue TG (transparent glitter) and Tiff Blue Matte Removable
Books Are Magic: Ultra Rosy Gold & Ultra Black
Sophie (with hearts): Sky Blue TG & Pink TG
Once Upon a Time: Bubblegum & Silver Polished Metal
I created my designs, picking out the fonts I wanted & then worked on getting my sizing right.
I plotted everything out & then got to work on weeding my designs!
I used transfer tape to apply the weeded designs to my clear poly.
For the “Just One More Chapter” bookmark, I applied the letters to my Tiff Blue background then applied THAT to the clear poly sheet.
I did the same for the “Once Upon a Time” design as well as the “Sophie.”
